The neighborhood is named after it’s resident California Historic Landmark, the Carolands Chateau, built by Harriet Pullman Caroland, the heiress to the Pullman railroad car fortune in 1916. Restoration of the 67,066 square foot, 4.5 floor, 98 room mansion was completed in 2007. It is considered to be a masterpiece of American Renaissance and Beaux-Arts design and in 1936 was considered to be the western White House. Currently it is used to host fundraisers and other events.
